AiANZ Veterinary Dermatology Symposium 2026

The Asian College of Veterinary Dermatology (AiCVD) — one of the founding colleges of the Asian Board of Veterinary Specialization — is a joint organiser of the inaugural AiANZ Veterinary Dermatology Symposium with Hifu-Zemi, to be held in Nara, Japan from 9–11 October 2026.

This is the first international academic conference to bring veterinary dermatologists together from across the Asia–Australasia region. The theme is Allergic Skin Diseases and Ear Canal Diseases 2026.

Organisers

The symposium is jointly organised by the Japanese Society of Veterinary Dermatology (JSVD), the Asian College of Veterinary Dermatology (AiCVD), the Asian Society of Veterinary Dermatology (AiSVD), and the Dermatology Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (DCANZCVS).

The Organising Committee is chaired by President Koji Nishifuji (JSVD/AiSVD/AiCVD), with David Robson (DCANZCVS) as Vice President.

Programme highlights

The three-day programme features more than 25 invited speakers from across Asia, Australasia, Europe and North America, including Ralf Mueller, Tim Nuttall, Verena Affolter, Stephen Shaw, Ken Mason and Chie Tamamoto-Mochizuki.

Friday 9 October — Resident sessions covering board-exam preparation, scientific writing and research methodology, and equine dermatology (exclusively for dermatology residents), plus a pre-congress stream on otitis externa closing with a round-table discussion on antimicrobial stewardship.
Saturday 10 October — AiANZ lectures on the pathophysiology of pruritus, cutaneous dysbiosis in atopic dogs, and the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis; oral free communications; a GP lecture stream on topical therapy and MRSP/MRSA pyoderma; the Otoscope Lab; the inaugural ceremony; and the Nara Dinner social event.
Sunday 11 October — A dedicated Dermatopathology Stream (advanced pattern analysis, round cell proliferations and interactive clinicopathologic case discussions), alongside AiANZ lectures on IL-31 blockers and cyclosporin, JSVD lectures on feline atopic syndrome, and GP lectures on Malassezia dermatitis and otitis externa.

Registration

Early bird rates apply until 31 July 2026. Members of AiSVD, AiCVD and DCANZCVS register at 60,000 JPY (early bird) or 75,000 JPY (regular). Reduced rates are available for Asian and Australasian residents and veterinary nurses (45,000 JPY early bird), students (15,000 JPY early bird), and for the Sunday-only Dermatopathology Stream (15,000 JPY early bird). The Otoscope Lab on 10 October is a separately ticketed workshop at 50,000 JPY.

JSVD members must register through the JSVD member website. Please note that cancellations and refunds after registration are generally not accepted.

Yokoi & Oboso International Registration Scholarship

To encourage international participation across the region, Dr Shinichi Yokoi and Dr Hiromi Oboso have established a scholarship supporting young veterinarians and researchers aged 40 or younger from Asia and Australasia (excluding Japan). Applicants should review the official application guidelines before submitting.

Call for abstracts

The Programme Committee invites submissions for free communications — oral and poster presentations — to be presented on Saturday 10 October 2026. Submissions are open in two categories: Original Research and Case Report.

The abstract submission deadline is Monday 17 August 2026 at 17:00 Japan Standard Time. All abstracts are reviewed by the AiANZ Programme Committee, and authors will be notified of acceptance by mid-September 2026.
